BETTER BUSINESS, BETTER LIFE…

Helping you to get what you want out of life.

3 December 2021 | Issue 36

As we head into another week, I take great pleasure in sharing my curated articles, tips & tools in a short read that will hopefully give you a few ‘aha’ moments as well as some laughter or joy. Most of all I hope it gives you pragmatic inspiration & helps you on your journey to doing what you love, with people you love, making a huge difference, being compensated appropriately with time to pursue other passions – #TheEOSLife.

Here’s this week’s business tip, life hack & find of the week… Some of them are original, most are things I have come across in my weekly pursuit of self-improvement & living a better life, through creating a better business. And don’t forget the inspirational quote, which you can download as a wallpaper or lock screen for your phone.

As always, if you find great things that you’d like to share then feel free to email me for inclusion in one of my weekly newsletters. I’m always looking for new & exciting things to share each week. And if you think someone else would like to receive the newsletter in their inbox, directly from my inbox (no newsletter apps used here!) then please let me know – debra@debrachantry-taylor.com

BETTER BUSINESS

A broken heart with two rings, symbolic of divorce

Is it worth getting divorced for?

There’s some statistic that’s bandied around that 50% of people who enrol in an MBA end up divorced. I don’t remember if that was true of our MBA cohort but it certainly was stressful at times 😊

Forbes talks about that stress here –

So, is it all worth it?

Having done the MBA programme, I won’t say that I regret it, but it all honesty, it was an ego, self-confidence or maybe even vanity study.

I thought I needed that piece of paper, because I was a young GM of a 220 staff business & I didn’t think I knew anything about business!

Strangely it hadn’t stopped the board from offering me the job & I had already started turning the business around from a stagnant position, but somehow I thought people wouldn’t take me seriously or that maybe I was missing out on something. So off I went, back to University.

And as this article says, having that piece of paper certainly won’t do you any harm, but I do concur that you really don’t need one to run a business either.

“I’ve seen too many business owners think they’ll never have a profitable business without that piece of paper. I say they’re getting hung up on the wrong things. Instead of worrying about credentials for business cards and diplomas for office walls, I say focus on the business. What will your clients say to others about your business and about you? That’s worth far more,” says Al Moscardelli.

And the EOS model actually teaches you much of what you would have learned in an MBA or at Business School anyway, just in a simpler, more pragmatic & quite frankly, more fun way!

So, forget the possible divorce & let’s start running a great business!

BETTER LIFE

A bed scrunchie?

Ok – you probably all know by now that I am obsessed with sleep. I have an Oura ring, I use another app that compliments it, that picks up on my snoring (Yes, I am a 51 year old overweight woman who may snore a little!) & my sleep talking (Come on, when don’t I talk??).

And then I take supplements that help me to sleep & use apps & pillow speakers to help me get back to sleep when I wake up in the middle of the night.

And it’s all because if I don’t get my 8 hours sleep, I am as grumpy as a Snow-white dwarf!

And one of our challenges has been that I toss & turn a lot & so our fitted sheet doesn’t always end up being as comfortable as it should be.

So when a Facebook advert showed me a bed scrunchie, I was excited… And yes, obviously very easily pleased.

I placed the order, slightly nervous about ordering from a Facebook advert & within 14 days it turned up.

And guess what? It works! When my sheets arrive back from the ironing man, I can now get my husband to fit them to the bed (I don’t do making beds or ironing 😊) using this bed scrunchie & it’s pure bliss.

So if a tight fitted, smooth bottom sheet (flat or fitted) is important to you, then I would highly recommend this!

FIND OF THE WEEK

Are you a great boss?

I have had the privilege of working with several EOS clients over the last week & I have loved every moment of it.

Some are now at the stage of rolling out EOS to the organisation & so they’re learning the EOS LMA (Leadership, Management & Accountability) tools.

These are brought to life in the book, “How to be a Great Boss”, by Gino Wickman & René Boer.

You can grab the first chapter of this book here & if you want a copy of the book itself, I have just imported some, so let me know.

In conjunction with this book, is the ‘How to be a Great Boss Toolkit’, which is just superb.

This book takes you through the 7 tools that you will find really handy:

  1. Delegate and ElevateTM
  1. The People AnalyzerTM
  1. The Accountability ChartTM
  1. GWCTM
  1. Clarity BreakTM
  1. The Leadership Self-Assessment
  1. The Management Self-Assessment
  1. The Annual Review

It helps if you’re running EOS with a Professional Implementer like me, as I can teach you all the tools, facilitate the difficult discussions & coach the team, however, they’re still great tools on their own!

Take a read & if you’d like to find out more about how I can help, then feel free to get in contact.
